CCTV system for Tiruchi airport soon

Surveillance and security measures are being strengthened at the Tiruchi airport with the installation of closed circuit television system (CCTV), currently under testing.

The entire airport, including the new terminal building, vital installations at the old terminal building, the apron and runway, would be covered under the CCTV system which is expected to be formally commissioned soon.

According to S. Dharmaraj, Airport Controller, the system would include static and pan tilt zoom surveillance cameras. Fifty-seven cameras had been installed and were under testing. Seven more cameras were under installation.

Once the installation was complete, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is in charge of airport security, would be trained in the operation and monitoring of the cameras, Mr. Dharmaraj told The Hindu .

The installation of the cameras would provide the security agency a much-needed technological aid.
