BHEL Tiruchirapalli Commissions 8000 Ton Hydraulic Press to make boiler drums


The Trichy Unit of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has commissioned a new 8000 Ton Hydraulic Press for manufacturing drums for steam generators. The new machine was installed at a cost of Rs 150 crore.

It will help in increasing the production of boiler drums, a critical component of power plants, of different capacities like 500 MW, 600 MW and 700 MW. The boiler drum is the largest single component in a boiler structure weighing up to 250 metric ton for a typical 500 MW boiler and is erected at an altitude of 72 metres.

A typical 500 MW drum is 24 metres long with a diameter of 2.1 metres.

BHEL Tiruchirapalli is expected to supply over 100 boiler drums for its various thermal power projects across the country this fiscal.

The machine has been supplied by Siempelkamp, Germany.

It was inaugurated by B Prasada Rao, Chairman and Managing Director, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) at a function held here yesterday in the presence of M K Dube, Director, Industrial Systems & Products (IS & P), BHEL, Mr A V Krishnan, Executive Director, BHEL, here and other senior executives of BHEL.
