MP sanctions Rs.15 lakh for pedestrian foot-over-bridge at Chinthamani

A pedestrian foot-over-bridge would soon come up near the Anna Statue near Chinthamani in the city with the sanction of funds for the project by P.Kumar, Member of Parliament, from his MP's Local Area Development (MPLAD) Fund.

Long felt need

The construction of the foot bridge would fulfil a long felt need of the residents of the city, given the chaotic traffic conditions around the Anna Statue junction.

Speaking to The Hindu , Mr.Kumar confirmed that he has sanctioned Rs.15 lakh for the construction of the foot bridge. The funds would be released through the district administration, Mr.Kumar said.

With several bus halts located nearby and the E.R.Higher Secondary School located just a few metres away, the Anna Statue area is a busy junction.

Pedestrians have been facing much hardship in crossing over the multiple road junction.The Tiruchi Corporation had been toying with various proposals including the construction of a foot bridge at the junction. With the sanction of the funds under the MPLAD, the Corporation is expected to execute the project soon.

Mr.Kumar also disclosed that he has sanctioned Rs.5 lakh for the construction of another foot over bridge in front of the Head Post Office. The Head Post Office junction is also a multiple road intersection, leaving pedestrians harried while crossing over the road.
