Indoor stadium and squash court to be completed soon
Sports facilities in Anna Stadium here will be developed to international standards, N.R. Sivapathi, Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare said.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the stadium here on Sunday, Mr.Sivapathi said work on construction of indoor stadium and squash court at the stadium complex will be completed soon.

He said that Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was keen on creating ample opportunities for sportspersons. “There is lot of talent waiting to be tapped in rural areas. Talented sportspersons will be identified and encouraged purely based on their merit,” he said.
Acknowledging the fact that Tiruchi has lot of promising athletes, Mr.Sivapathi said that he would bring to the attention of Chief Minister the need for laying a synthetic athletic track in the stadium.
The Minister also said that efforts would be made to promote sports such as tennis and badminton among rural youngsters. Mr. Sivapathi visited the swimming pool at the stadium complex and had a chat with the young swimmers. A woman swimming coach would be appointed soon, he said.
N. Sundaram, Deputy General Manager, Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), S. Pannerselvam, Regional Senior Manager, Tiruchi-unit of SDAT, and P. Kalaiselvan, District Sports Officer, were present on the occasion.
