Cultural complex coming up in the city

The city would soon get a regional cultural complex and the State government has sanctioned Rs.96 lakh for the construction of the complex at Melur Road in Srirangam in the city.

The complex would house the Regional Cultural Centre, the District Government Music School and the Jawahar Bal Bhavan. Currently all the three institutions are functioning from rented buildings. The construction of the regional cultural complex would help integrate the functions of the Department of Arts and Culture and also bring all its programmes under a single roof. The Commissioner of Revenue Administration has already passed orders allotting 20 cents of land for the complex off the Melur Road, situated close to the famous Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple, R. Gunasekaran, Regional Assistant Director of Arts and Culture, told ‘The Hindu.'

Mr. Gunasekaran said the new cultural complex would be a multi-storeyed building with furnished and separate classrooms for the music school and the Bal Bhavan. It would also house a mini-auditorium for hosting cultural events.
