IOC terminal gets eight bays to augment capacity

By augmenting its handling capacity through creation of eight new bays in addition to the existing eight in its terminal at Vazhavanthankottai, the Indian Oil Corporation has plans to cover Cuddalore and Villupuram districts also in the coming years.

At present, the terminal with handling capacity of 1,800 kilolitres a day caters to the requirements of Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Perambalur and Tiruvarur districts, and parts of Nagapattinam, Karur and Dindigul districts.

According to the terminal Manager, R. Ravichandran, the new bays are likely to be readied during the next financial year. Since fuel is supplied through underground pipelines to the storage tanks, the combined capacity was sufficient to plan future enhancements of daily volume handling. The terminal has a capacity to store 11,000 kl petrol, 6,600 kl kerosene and 9,500 kl diesel, said Mr. Ravichandran.
