Traction sub-station energised - Trichy Jn Electrification

The new Traction Sub Station established at Tiruchi Junction as part of the electrification of the Villupuram-Tiruchi broad gauge section was energised on Wednesday. The General Manager, Central Organisation for Railway Electrification (CORE), Allahabad G. R.Vij commissioned the station in the presence of the Chief Project Manager, Railway Electrification, Chennai, R.P. Udayakumar and other officials.

As part of the over Rs.100-crore electrification project between Villupuram and Tiruchi, traction sub-stations have already been energised at Villupuram and Ariyalur railway stations. Work on the Vriddhachalam sub-station is currently apace and is expected to be energised by the end of October, an official told The Hindu.

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board was erecting towers to connect the Tiruchi traction sub station, he said, adding that 22 towers had already been erected. Railway authorities expect the power supply this month-end. The 110KV power would be stepped down to 25 KV and given to the over head equipment.
