The first batch of seven BOXNHL wagons

The first batch of seven BOXNHL wagons made of stainless steel was flagged off at the Golden Rock Railway Workshop in the city on Monday. C. Ilangovan, Controller of Stores, Southern Railway flagged of the wagons in the presence of J. Digi, Chief Workshop Manager, Golden Rock Railway Workshop and other workshop staff and officers.

A press release here said the Railway Board had given an order to the workshop to manufacture 600 numbers of BOXNHL stainless steel wagons with a higher pay load. The wagons have been designed to overcome problems of corrosion, body bulging and weak stanchions in the existing BOXNHS wagons. The new design enables extra loading of 2.92 tonnes per wagon contributing an extra earning of Rs. 5,800 per wagon and Rs. 3.38 lakh per rake.
