Electification work to be over soon

TIRUCHI: Electrification of the Villupuram-Tiruchi broad gauge section will be completed by the middle of March, A. P. Mishra, Additional General Manager, Southern Railway, said on Friday.

Talking to reporters at the valediction of Safety Week here, Mr. Mishra said electrification between Villupuram and Ariyalur had been completed and goods trains were being operated from Ariyalur to Villupuram.
Inspection

The work between Ariyalur and Tiruchi would be over by the middle of next month. The Commissioner of Railway Safety would inspect the work before the trains started running.

Mr. Mishra said the electrification between Tiruchi and Madurai would be completed by the middle of 2010. The work would cost Rs. 140 crore. Southern Railway had allotted Rs.500 crore for safety programmes, which included strengthening of infrastructure.

Presiding over the valediction, he said railway employees should adhere to safety norms without complacence.
