CM to lay stone for Perambalur SEZ

PERAMBALUR: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi would lay the foundation stone for the special economic zone (SEZ) at Perambalur by December end or early January, Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology A. Raja said here on Saturday.

The land acquisition for the SEZ has already been completed and the final approval for the project was expected from the Centre soon.

Mr.Karunanidhi would also lay foundation stones for the construction of buildings for the government medical college at Perambalur and the government engineering college at Ariyalur, Mr. Raja said inaugurating a photo exhibition in connection in with the Anna centenary celebrations.

About 140 photographs tracing the life of the former Chief Minister were on display at the exhibition.

Mr. Raja also conveyed that a ring road has been sanctioned for Perambalur and the government has sanctioned Rs.5.25 crore for acquiring the required lands. The ring road would come up at a cost of about Rs.60 crore.

The Bharathidasan University’s constituent college in Perambalur would start functioning from its own buildings from the next academic year. Steps were also being taken to establish a Kendriya Vidyalaya in Perambalur, he said.

Collector Anil Meshram, District Revenue Officer P.Shankar, MLAs M.Rajkumar and S.Sivashankar and others spoke. The exhibition at the Community Centre at Sangupettai would be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. till November 13, except Sundays.
