BIM, a model business school

Chennai, Oct 14 : Bharatidasan Institute of Management (BIM), the business school division of the Bharatidasan University, Tiruchirapalli, which turned 25 this year, has emerged as a model business school in the country and one of the few government sponsored schools.

The brain child of former Union Minister late C Subramaniam and well-known educationist P S Mani Sundaram, BIM was chosen by the former President A P J Abdul Kalam, when he was the DRDO chief, as the ideal training ground for the scientists of the organisation.

While other business schools like IIMs introduced reservation for backward classes and SCs and STs only from this academic year, the BIM had started implementing the reservation policy of the Tamil Nadu government right from its inauguration in 1984.

'"Though we have strength to become a university by ourself,we want to be part of the Bharatidasan University,its Director M Sankaran told reporters.

The students, passing out from the school, were immediately being absorbed by the industry, he said.

As part of the silver jubille celebrations, the students of the BIM, has organised a summit of business leaders here on October 17. Over 100 students from other business schools would be participating, he said. - Agencies
