Tiruchirapalli Head Post office to offer electronic Money Order

NEW DELHI: As part of its ongoing efforts to make a difference in the operations of Post Offices, the government on Tuesday said it is planning to revamp the money order service and introduce electronic mode for faster remittance of money.

"The present money order service of the Department is poised to be completely revamped to provide more efficient and improved service to the customers at no extra cost," an official statement said.

The move would reduce transmission of vouchers from one place to another and provide for centralised information system on the money order service, it added.

The booking facilities of electronic money order (eMO) would be available at post offices where Wide Area Connectivity or Broadband Connectivity is available.

eMOs would have similar tariff and limits of remittance as in the case of ordinary money order. Once the process stabilises, department may consider enhancing the maximum limit of remittance.

A trial on Money Order software is in operation at New Delhi HO, Bangalore GPO, Mysore HO, Indore GPO and Tiruchirapalli HO, it added.

However, the present service of ordinary domestic Money Order would also remain available in the Post Offices, as at present, it added.
