Trichy to get Astro-Turf Hockey Field

Chennai (PTI): Tamil Nadu government has decided to establish an astro-turf at a cost of Rs 3 crores in Tiruchirapalli in the state.

"Continuing with the objective of development of sports, especially hockey, Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned Rs three crore for setting up of a synthetic hockey field at Tiruchirapalli," said K Jothikumaran, Secretary, Tamil Nadu Hockey Association in a press release.

Hockey is being played in 25 districts of the state and the TNHA's representations have borne fruit. The association thanks the government for its decision. The State has now four astro-turf hockey fields, he added.

A high altitude training centre is also proposed to be established in Nilgiris by the Sports Authority of India with the cooperation of Tamil Nadu government, he said.
