The Trichy Corporation has received a pat on the back from Commissionerate of Municipal Administration, Chennai, for pursuing efficient segregated waste collection process.
The Trichy Corporation has collected 4,568 tonne of non-biodegradable waste from households across the city, and around Rs 95.28 lakh has been generated through recycling of the collected non-biodegradable waste. The sum was subsequently distributed to around 2,000 among workers.
Since June 2017, the Trichy Corporation, in a first among corporations in Tamil Nadu, promulgated segregated waste collection process. On Wednesdays every week, corporation workers collect only the non-biodegradable waste while on other days biodegradable waste is collected through door-to-door waste collection activities.
Appreciating the efforts of civic body, municipal administration minister SP Velumani on Monday awarded certificate of merit to the corporation commissioner N Ravichandran at Chennai.
