The six-year old demand of Ariyamangalam locals seeking proper approach road to access the Road over Bridge (RoB) in the vicinity was finally addressed by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The approach roads to National Highways 67 connecting Trichy and Thanjavur near the Ariyamangalam was not laid as a part of the NH construction works, leaving the residents in a fix. It even gave a bad impression to potential investors visiting SIDCO industrial estate in the vicinity. After TOI reported about the bad shape of the road, NHAI has laid them last week.

Ever since the four-laning of Thanjavur-Trichy section of NH67 was completed in 2011, the RoB established bypassing the railway track in Ariyamangalam, residents have been awaiting a proper approach road for over half-a-decade. Apart from the residential neighbourhood, the approach road is the only pathway for visitors to enter SIDCO industrial estate and also to access the office of Trichy District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (TIDITSSIA), an association working for promoting entrepreneurship. The poor condition of the road with dusty ambiance was cited as a let-down for many potential investor approaching the TIDITSSIA and SIDCO complex.

Meanwhile, after TOI reported the plight of locals in accessing the approach road in an issue dated November 6, 2017, sources from NHAI said that construction works for laying the road was taken up by a contractor entrusted by NHAI about a couple of weeks ago.
"Only the final bituminous layer of the approach road is left, considering the weather, we have postponed the work for time being. The contractor was earlier told to complete the pending works," a senior official with project implementation unit, NHAI, Thanjavur said. Similarly, the pending works pertaining to the laying of approach road to Thiruverumbur RoB was completed last week, NHAI officials said.
