Mini-marathon receives good response

A mini-marathon conducted by the Tiruchi Corporation received a good response from college students on Sunday.

It was aimed at creating awareness among youngsters, mainly college students, of Swachh Survekshan 2018 (clean city ranking survey), which is likely to be undertaken in January.

More than 1,000 students, including about 200 girls, participated in the competition.

Students of nine colleges in Tiruchi city participated in it.

Collector K. Rajamani flagged off the mini-marathon in the presence of Corporation Commissioner N. Ravichandran, Deputy Police Commissioner Mayilvahanan and music composer and brand ambassador of Tiruchi City Corporation James Vasanthan.

The event saw the participation of students in two categories — boy and girls.

The enthusiastic participants competed with each other in covering about 7-km distance from Anna Nagar Uzhavar Sandhai to Anna stadium via MGR statue, Bharathidasan Salai, Head Post Office, T.V.S. Togate.

Mr. Ravichandran said participation of residents was very much important in deciding the outcome of Swachh Survekshan.

The Corporation had been taking several steps to improve its national ranking. The programmes would improve the awareness on Swachh Survekshan.
