Come January 2018, four major parks in city limits would boast of a refreshed look. Works for amphitheatre and walking tracks are in full swing in the corporation parks. The leisure sites would be powered with LED lights as a part of Urban Local Body's (ULB) plan to bring down power consumption. Officials said that 60 per cent of works in the four parks have been completed by the contractors.
With a total outlay of Rs 2.64 crores, the four major parks identified are Panchapur Green Park, RS Puram Park South, RS Puram Park North and Mullai Nagar. They were taken up for beautification and renovation works with the fund sanctioned through Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).
As a part of the beautification works, aimed at making the green park a model for all other corporation parks, Trichy Corporation has been constructing an amphitheatre in Panchapur Green Park which could serve as an open auditorium for at least 100-150 people to enjoy edutainment programmes.

Similarly, RS Puram North and RS Puram South parks will also be getting a facelift at an estimated cost of Rs 92 lakh and Rs 57 lakh respectively, while the Mullai Nagar Park would see a beautification drive for Rs 45 lakh. Except for Panchapur Green Park, situated in the city outskirts, the remaining three parks, well located in residential localities, are expected to have a high patronage among the locals.
"About 60 per cent of beautification works in all the four major parks have been completed. We are trying our best to complete the pending works by month-end. Only the landscaping and room for security person are left," a senior official with the civic body said.
Sources added that all four parks are provided with pavement for morning walkers, besides the area earmarked for kids, where play materials are being established. As all the parks in the city are being brought under surveillance, CCTV cameras are to be installed in four parks for better monitoring.
"Fountain facility is one element that would differentiate these four parks from other parks. Better maintenance would be ensured for the functioning of fountains," the corporation official added. The official also said two more parks in the city might be brought under the ambit of AMRUT scheme in the ensuing year as a part of beautifying the existing parks in the city to improve the patronage.
