Kaisiga Ekadasi celebrated at Srirangam temple

Temple festivals at the Pidari Iraniyamman temple and Sri Ranganathaswamy temple in the district drew thousands to witness the event on Thursday.


Consecration was held at the Pidari Iraniyamman temple at Thiruvanaikaval and 'vastra seva' was offered to the presiding deity at the Sriranagam temple from Thirupathi Devasthnanam which marked the beginning of Kaisiga Ekadasi festival.
Devotees from various parts of the state came to the Pidari Iraniyamman temple situated at the South East corner outside Thiruvanaikoil temple to witness the consecration. The event was also attended by tourism minister Vellamandi N Natarajan. The sacred puja started around 5:30am and went on till 10:15am when pots with sacred water taken from the Cauvery river were taken on top of the temple to the Kalasham for consecration.
The Kaisiga Ekadasi began with the vastra seva which is an annual ritual to mark the presence of the presiding deity of Srirangam in Thirumala for over 50 years in the 14th century. One of the significant festival of Sri Ranganathaswamy temple at Srirangam, Kaisiga Ekadasi is observed exactly a month before Vaikunta Ekadasi.
Attires for temple deities along with Ramanujar came in the early hours on the Thursday and carried around on the temple elephant through the Ranga Ranga gopuram to Garuda mandapam.TNN
