600 students undertake a campaign titled 'Tiruchiye Vaasi'

About 600 students of SRV Matriculation Higher Secondary School undertook a campaign titled 'Tiruchiye Vaasi' on Sunday to promote reading habit among the people, particularly youngsters.

The focus of the campaign at Uzhavar Sandhai ground at Thennur was to promote the concept of a library in every household.

Led by their Principal Thulasidhasan and Joint Secretary of School Management Committee B. Sathyamurthy, students staged cultural performances and took out a rally detailing the importance of reading habit. They distributed pamphlets and a booklet containing the writings of 10 leading authors to passers-by.

Nandalala, poet, who inaugurated the campaign observed that reading habit was on the wane among youngsters 'imprisoned' by technological gadgets. A new generation depending only on reading material available online has emerged.

The campaign was meant to emphasise that book reading was vital for developing the attributes of clear thinking, foresight and patience, he said.
