Tangedco launches WhatsApp helpline to report grievances

Reporting electricity related grievances to Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has been made easy with exclusive WhatsApp helpline being launched for the people. Residents and commercial establishments in eight districts falling under Trichy region of TANGEDCO can convey their grievances through the recently launched WhatsApp helpline number- 94861-11912.
According to TANGEDCO officials, apart from the fuse-off call telephone numbers in the respective jurisdiction of TANGEDCO divisions in Trichy region that includes eight districts including Trichy, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Karur, and Pudukkottai, electricity board officials launched a dedicated WhatsApp helpline few days ago.

Official sources cited the penetration and prominence of WhatsApp social networking and message sharing platform among the public as reason for the move through which electricity related grievances can be addressed. "Public while sending their grievances should also mention their location which would be easy for our officials to address the issue," R Padmanaban, superintending engineer with TANGEDCO said. With the launch of WhatsApp helpline, electricity board officials said that the grievances once received would be directed to the superintending engineers and executive engineers concerned in the eight districts for tracking the issue and acknowledgement would be sent to the user after the issue is addressed. People can use the helpline for complaining about weak electric poles, severed electricity lines and other grievances such as low-voltage trouble.
However, the helpline number as on Sunday evening was last seen online on WhatsApp on Saturday evening around 4.42 pm. TANGEDCO officials claimed that grievances reported through helpline would be addressed in a day but the number has been inactive since Saturday evening.
