EVR college gets Rs 2 crore from RUSA

Image result for periyar evr college trichyPERIYAR EVR College in the city will build 20 new classrooms and three laboratories with the help of funds from the Tamil Nadu government in view of former Chief Minister and AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran's birth centenary celebrations.The college will also be extending its library facilities with Rs 2 crore from the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), a centrally sponsored scheme. S Rajendran, the recently appointed principal of the college, said the classrooms would be constructed once the management receives the funds from the government. Rajendran's previous postings were in government arts colleges in Karur and Komarapalayam districts, respectively. He has 36 years' experience in teaching. Speaking of the funding, Rajendran said, "This will enable increasing enrollment in the college and the laboratories will up-grade the practical knowledge of students".

Recently, the college was accredited with an 'A' grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, enabling it to receive the 2 crore from RUSA for infrastructure development, he said. The funds would be used for the library and buying new equipment. Admission-cum-counselling for Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) and MSc Visual Communication courses will be-gin from August 10 and the col-lege will follow university norms for PhD and M.Phil course admissions.
