Youth take to marathon for climate change awareness

AIMED at creating awareness about climate change and the importance of trees in the environment among the general public, seven Tiruchy based youngsters relayed a continuous marathon with a torch in hand from Tiruchy to the memorial of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam located in Rameswaram on Monday. They ran the marathon for commemoration of the former Indian President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam's second death anniversary, While speaking, AG Prabhu, one of the organisers of the awareness marathon, said, "Global warming has reached an alarming level, most people are unaware that deforestation being one of the major reasons for the increased atmospheric temperature". Adding to that he stated that to make people aware about the importance of the tree plantation and increasing the green cover of the environment the seven youth decided to ran the marathon.

As the second anniversary of the former Indian President, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam is near, with the permission from the APJ Abdul Kalam Trust that works for the principles of People's Presidents such as planting trees, the awareness marathon sh all end in the former Indian President's Memorial on July 21. Along with the seven marathon runners, medical personnel are there.
