Two airlines awaiting touchdown in city

Image result for indigo airasiaTHE winter schedule of the Tiruchy Airport will witness the entry of an international and a domestic airlines. The international, as well as domes-tic sector, is expected to receive services of Thai Air Asia and Indigo. AAI authorities are currently trying to provide slots for the new entrants. A senior AAI official said, "Thai AirAsia is a joint ven-ture of Malaysian low-fare air-line AirAsia and Thailand's Asia Aviation. It serves AirAsia's regularly scheduled domestic and international flights from Bangkok and other cities. The Air Asia flight will be running with an 180 seater capacity narrow-bodied flight as per the standards of the Tiruchy Airport". He added that the slots have been identified as 12. Meanwhile, Indigo Airlines also expressed its interest in
flying to Tiruchy. The Tiruchy Airport that has been witnessing a spurt in the number of international passengers was however in need of domestic connectivity with only a single private operator connecting Chennai."The airlines will mostly be launching services along the Tiruchy- Chennai-Bengaluru sector". The ATR type of aircraft can carry passengers up to 40-50 depending on the models. A senior official from the air-port said that several airlines from abroad have expressed interest in flying to Tiruchy and also the airport has finally drawn in plans to expand the terminals. The Rs 897 crore project will begin in March 2018 with the airport all set to expand massively to a capacity to hold 3.52 Million Passengers a year. The airport is also be-ing constructed in the code E style, which will be the second in the state to capacitate larger wingspan aircraft.
