Tiruchy using Swachh' funds efficiently: Commissioner

Under the Centre's 'Swachh Bharat Fund' and the Integrated solid waste management Scheme 2016-17, the Tiruchirappalli city corporation was allotted a sum of 014.83 crore for establishing 20 micro-compost yards. Of them, three units have already started functioning in three divisions of the corporation, said the municipal body's com-missioner N Ravichandran. He was speaking to newsmen on the side-lines of a function here on Sunday to open eight more micro-compost yards at the hands of the
state ministers Mrs. Valarmathi and Vellam-andi Natrajan. The commissioner said that under this scheme, 63.11 metric tonnes of dust and garbage is to be converted into compost and the same will be distributed to the needy farmers free. So far 29 tonnes of compost have been supplied to local
farmers, he added. Mr Ravichandran said three urban primary health centres have been built at Uyyakondan Thirumalai, Nadu Theru, and Kodappu Sala! at a cost of ‘52 lakh under the National Urban Health scheme 2013-14 and 2014.2015, for the benefit of the local population.
