New police station for Srirangam

A new police station building coming up at Srirangam is expected to be opened soon. It has been constructed at the same site after demolishing the old structure.

The building near the Rajagopuram of the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple has reached the final stage of completion. It would have an elevator, said to be the first of its kind for police stations in the State. The Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation (TNPHC) is executing the project at a cost of Rs. 1 crore.

The work began in March 2016. Temporarily, the station has been functioning at the All Women Police Station. An official said that the new building is will have ground plus two floors. Usually, police stations would have ground and first floor. The ground floor is 1,940 square feet. The area of the first and second floors is a little over 2,000 square feet each.

The ground floor would be occupied by personnel attached to the Law and Order wing and the first floor earmarked for the crime wing. The second floor will house the traffic police wing. Separate rest room has been provided for women police in addition to lock ups, arms room besides separate chambers for Inspector – Law and Order and Inspector - Crime and separate rooms for the three Sub Inspectors.

The building has a property room and another room to install computer for Crime and Criminal Network and Tracking System. The new structure with three-phase power supply would be given a final coat off painting on the front and left side and the entire works including testing and commissioning of the lift facility are all expected to be completed early next month. The building has been provided with energy-saving lights. A borewell has been sunk to meet water requirements and the building would feature a rain water harvesting structure.
