A SPECIAL meeting of the Senate and Syndicate will be held at the Bharathidasan University (BDU) campus on July 15 to finalise the new nominees of the Senate and Syndicate members to the search commit-tee, which would suggest a panel of names for the post of Vice-Chancellor, BDU. As the tenure of the former Vice Chancellor V M Muthukumar has lapsed on June 12, a two-member Convener Committee was formed, comprising of the Higher Education Secretary Sunil Paliwal as the Convener and Director of Collegiate Education J Manju la as another member. A search panel meeting was held on May 8, 2017 and Senate member C Thiruchelvam, former Registrar of BDU and a Syndicate member R Murugan, a college administrator were nominated for suggesting a list of names from which a new VC for BDU will be selected. Meanwhile, an ordinance passed by the
State Government on May 27, 2017 stated that the search panel should have an eminent academician with more credentials than that of the VC.

Thus the two selected search panel nominees, Thiruchelvam and Murugan, were considered void as their experience did not meet with the guidelines prescribed in the Ordinance. Subsequently, to elect fresh nominees for the search panel with one member from the Senate and another from the Syndicate, a special meeting has been scheduled on July 15 at the University A well-placed source told Express that the two meetings, a morning session to nominate a Senate member and an evening ses-sion to nominate a Syndicate member, will be conducted under the purview of Higher Education Secretary Sunil Paliwal. After finalising the search panel commit-tee, three names will be put forth to the Tamil Nadu Governor -Chancellor Ch Vidyasagar Rao by the search committee.
