IndiGo keen to operate services from Tiruchi

Image result for indigo atrTiruchi international airport may soon witness operation of another domestic service in the coming months with a team from IndiGo visiting the airport on Monday.

A high - level delegation from IndiGo a low-cost airline carried out a operational feasibility study ahead of launching service from Tiruchi and held discussions with top officials of the Airport Authority of India here.

The five-member team held a meeting with the Airport Director K. Gunasekaran in this connection besides interacting with senior officials of the Air Traffic Management and Export Cargo terminal to get a first hand account of the airport. Tiruchi at present has only domestic connectivity to Chennai despite repeated demands from the travel industry for augmenting domestic services to various other cities from here.

Airport sources told The Hindu that the team went around the new international terminal building, Air Traffic Control, export cargo terminal, runway and the Indian Oil Corporation terminal at the airport. The team ascertained finer details regarding the international airport, its existing operation details, passenger capacity and other technical details.

The team has expressed interest in launching services in the Tiruchi – Chennai and Tiruchi – Bengaluru sectors, Airport Director, Tiruchi K. Gunasekaran told The Hindu after the meeting.

During the discussions, the airline officials evinced interest in operating service from Tiruchi during the upcoming winter schedule, he further said. The airline is expected to operate ‘ATR’ type aircraft in the Tiruchi – Chennai and Tiruchi – Bengaluru sectors. The team is expected to convey the details to its higher ups before taking a concrete decision on the launch of the new service, said airport sources.
