Focusing on water at Car-Free Sunday

At a time when water scarcity plagues several parts of the State, there is a definite need to maintain an emotional connect with water - the principal and fundamental element of all lives.

Every human should express gratitude to water which is a supreme living soul. These messages and more were driven home to the public by Dakshina Foundation, Coimbatore, at Car-Free Sundays jointly organised by The Hindu Group in association with Tiruchi City Police and Tiruchi Corporation.

“The respect and gratitude our ancestors showed to water should be continuously pursued by the present generation”, said R. Saravanan, Operations Head of the Foundation, keeping the audience in rapt attention.

This event also saw a skit on maintaining a healthy lifestyle by students of the Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchi.

The three-hour-long programme which kept one part of the Anna Nagar Link Road free from vehicular traffic proved a hit this time as well.

Portrait drawing, lemon and spoon race for kids, stamp exhibition and free registration for children below five years at a special Aadhaar camp were among the other events that formed part of the programme.
