Engineering counselling to begin on Monday

“We cannot postpone the process unduly and have to take on the burden of seats remaining vacant,” he added.

Considering the cut-offs, Anna University officials say as many as 1,000 seats may remain vacant after counselling in some of the top colleges in the State, owing to the confusion over medical admission.

Anna University has planned to conduct entrance test for admission to seats in architecture courses under its purview.

The university has received the approval of the Council of Architecture for the same, Mr. Anbalagan said.

The test would be held this month but the date would announced later, he said.

Usually seats are filled through National Aptitude Test in Architecture, which students can take round the year.

This year, however, the test was offered only once and very few students qualified for seats. The university also relaxed the rule enabling candidates with Joint Engineering Entrance scores to apply. But with seats continuing to remain vacant, Anna University has decided to conduct its own entrance test for B.Arch admission.

The merit list for B.Arch would be released on August 10 and counselling would be held on August 19, officials said.
