Central TN to get more India Post Payment Banks - PMG

The India Post central region office based out of Tiruchirappalli plans to open more 'India Post Payment' banks at Tiruchy, Karur, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, and Cuddalore, according to Dr Mrs. Veena Kumari, Post Master General (PMG) for the central region in Tamil Nadu. Dr Veena told news-men here on Monday that they were now looking for new premises to house these additional new payment banks. She said under the Suganya Samridhi (Se-Iva Mahal) savings scheme, the central region so far has 38,380 accounts with a deposit of 1174 crore. There were 24 ATMs' with an inter-banking link across the central region and so far they have issued 68,000 ATM cards in the region, Dr Veena said. Earlier. Dr Veena Kumari opened the Aadhar' card details updating centre at the Head Post Office (H-P0) premises here and said they planned to open such centres in all the 10 HPOs in the region. Hardware for the new centres is await-ed. Similar centres will be opened at Srira-ngam and Perambalur HP0 in the next couple of days, Dr Veena said. The PMG said that the Department of Posts in collaboration with UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has launched updating of Aadhar' cards for the existing 'Aadhar' card holders. Dr Veena also inaugurated the sale of the second series of the sovereign gold bond scheme for the year 2017.18. The top official said that during the last tranche, post offices in the central region have sold gold bonds equivalent to 19.30 Kg of gold to the tune of Rs 5.60 crore, and stood first at the All India level and Tamil Nadu Circle level. Dr Veena expressed the hope that this year also they will have similar response from members of the public.
