2,950 cases disposed of at lok adalats in Tiruchi

About 2,950 cases were disposed of at lok adalats conducted in Tiruchi district on Saturday leading to the award of settlements to tune of ₹ 10.24 crore.

The lok adalats were conducted at Tiruchi Court campus, besides the Thuraiyur, Manapparai, Musiri and Lalgudi courts. The lok adalat at the district court was inaugurated by S. Kumaraguru, Principal District Judge.

Among the cases settled were Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Original Petitions (MCOP), land acquisition cases, compoundable criminal cases, rent control matters and civil cases, cheque dishonour cases and consumer cases.


In Perambalur, 1,413 cases were disposed of at the lok adalat leading to the award of settlement to the tune of ₹8.30 crore. S. Balarajamanickam, Principal District and Sessions Judge, presided over the mediation sessions.

The cases settled include 76 MCOPs, eight civil cases, minor offences and suits filed by nationalised banks for recovery of dues in non-performing assets.


As many as 800 cases were settled in Thoothukudi district. Principal District Judge N. Rajasekar presided over the proceedings. Of the 800 cases that were settled, 651 cases were pending in the court and 149 in the pre-litigation stage. A total of 1,488 cases pending in the court and 2,427 pre-litigation cases were dealt with by 16 benches formed by the District Legal Services Authority. Settlements to the tune of ₹ 3.41 crore were awarded. As many as 538 criminal compoundable cases, 54 MCOP cases, 10 cheque bounce cases, five bank recovery cases, 27 civil cases and 17 cases related to matrimonial and maintenance and several pre-litigation cases were taken up.


Principal District Judge K. Rajasekar presided over the lok adalat in Tirunelveli. A total of 5,755 cases, including 1,801 pre-litigation cases, were taken up and ₹ 7.18 crore was awarded as settlements by 19 benches across the district.


District and Sessions Judge S. Sathikumar said 1,035 cases - 612 pre-litigation and 423 pending cases - were resolved. A total settlement of ₹ 6.19 crore was awarded. Of the 7,603 bank recovery (pre-litigation) cases taken up for hearing, 599 were resolved and ₹ 4.65 crore was recovered.
