2-member team appointed to select BDU Vice Chancellor

A TWO-MEMBER selection committee to search for a Vice-Chancellor for Bharathidasan University (BDU) has been set up following a decision taken at the Senate and Syndicate meeting held in the university on Saturday. Syndicate member S Sivasubramaniyam, former Vice-Chan-cellor (VC) of Bharathiar Univer-sity (BU) in Coimbatore and Senate member R Venkatarathinam, retired professor of Sociology at Madurai Kamaraj Univer-sity (MKU) were elected as Syndicate and Senate nominee respectively for suggesting names for the new BDU Vice-Chancellor. The meeting was conducted under the purview of J Manjula, Director of Collegiate Education,and other government officials . As the tenure of the BDU former Vice-Chancellor VM Muthu Kumar was scheduled to lapse on June 12, a search committee was constituted on May 8, 2016, by electing Senate member C Thiruchelvam, who was former Registrar of BDU and a Syndicate member R Murugan, a college administrator. A committee was formed with Sunil Paliwal as the convenor and J Manjula as the other mem-ber. An ordinance, passed by the State government on May 27, 2016, said only an 'eminent academician' can be in the Vice-Chancellor selection committee. Following that, anew committee was formed for nominating one member from the Senate and an-other member of a Syndicate at the meet on Saturday The two elected members- S Sivasubramaniyam and R Venkatarathinam-would jointly suggest a panel of names for the BDU's
