Trichy corporation to beautify the entry points

TIMES OF INDIA: Trichy corporation has mooted a proposal to improve the aesthetics of roads connecting Trichy International Airport and the city’s entry points.

The civic body has prepared a proposal to improve the TVS tollgate junction, a key entry point situated on the merging point of Trichy-Pudukottai and Chennai-Trichy-Madurai national highways. Corporation has already beautified the Palpannai intersection on Trichy-Thanjavur and Trichy-Chennai national highways.

Officials said the space beneath the TVS tollgate flyover will be fenced with stainless-steel handrails to prevent people from urinating there. The local body will install an illuminated water fountain. The proposal was in line with the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board’s suggestion to add water fountains for improving the air quality

TIMES OF INDIA: “Decorative plants will be grown below the flyover. LED lights were already facilitated, if required, more lights will be installed,” an official said. TVS tollgate is the major intersection point of the city witnessing the frequent movement of VVIPs.

Meanwhile, the local body has sanctioned 58 lakh to install streetlights for a 2km stretch between the Trichy airport and Thiruvalarchipatti on the Trichy-Pudukottai NH. “We will either go with the traditional lights, similar to the model available on Chennai Trunk Road in Thiruvanaikoil, or 8m-tall modern lamp posts for the airport area.” Unlike conventional steel poles, modern poles are red and blue in colour. While welcoming the beautification initiative, locals have also sought the corporation to beautify the Mannarpuram roundabout on Chennai-Trichy-Madurai NH.
