As new airport lounge fails to attract fliers, authorities plan to open bar

Situated on the first floor of the terminal building, the lounge was inaugurated in the first week of April

TRICHY: The new lounge with buffet facilities opened for executive class passengers at Trichy international airport recently has failed to attract passengers with just about ten footfalls being recorded every day. To attract more people, the authorities are now thinking of opening a bar at the lounge, sources said.
Situated on the first floor of the terminal building, the lounge was inaugurated in the first week of April with facilities to entertain about 40 passengers flying business class of any flight. Golden Chariot Hospitality Services Private Limited had established the facility. Besides free WiFi, a passenger can have unlimited food, tea, coffee, fresh juice and snacks at the lounge by paying Rs 900. It was expected that the lounge would get good patronage every day as no such facility was there at the terminal building for passengers. However, an official said it failed to attract the required number of passengers. “Though the facility can accommodate 40 passengers at a time, not even 10 would turn up here”, he lamented. According to him, they were paying Rs 2 lakh as rent to Airport Authority of India a month. However, they were yet to get revenue to meet their expenses at present, he said. “Most of the passengers using the airport belong to the working class. Though Trichy is an international airport there is no option for the passengers to take transit. These are the main reasons for business not picking up”, he added. They were now thinking of opening a bar at the lounge to attract more passengers, he further stated.
