Aircraft movement soars at this non-metro airport

With direct connectivity to select foreign destinations in South Asia, South East and West Asia, Tiruchi international airport has witnessed an upward trend in the total aircraft movement in 2018-19 financial year as compared to the previous fiscal.

Airports Authority of India statistics show that the total aircraft movement (both international and domestic) in 2018-19 was 14,929.

The figure is higher as compared to the 2017-18 fiscal when it was 12,801, witnessing an increase of 16%.

Overseas flight movements account for the bulk of traffic at Tiruchi airport, which boasts of direct connectivity to Colombo, Singapore, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur and Sharjah.


At present, the services in these sectors are operated by different airlines every day.

The overseas flights are being operated using A-320 and Boeing 737 aircraft.

Introduction of services to certain domestic destinations from Tiruchi last year led to the rise in total aircraft movement
