Beautification of Mannarpuram roundabout on the anvil

The Tiruchi City Corporation has sought the nod of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for developing the roundabout at Mannarpuram in the city.

Explaining the need for beautification of the roundabout, which is located at the entry point to the city from Madurai-Tiruchi National Highway, the civic body has sent a formal communication to NHAI. Some of the salient features of the proposed plan have also been mentioned in the communication.

Corporation Commissioner N. Ravichandran told The Hindu that the roundabout at Mannarpuram had been identified as the best for establishing a public park with a fountain as it had a plinth area of about half an acre.

It could be made as a welcome point for those entering the city from Madurai and southern districts.

The matter has already been discussed in person and the NHAI would extend permission soon, he added.

A consultant has been asked to prepare a plan for the beautification of roundabout.

It was estimated that it could cost ₹1 crore.

Besides improving the greenery of the park, playing equipment for children and sitting benches would also be established at the site.
