Swachh rank: Trichy among top five in citizen feedback

TRICHY: The effort by the Trichy Corporation for Swachh Survekshan ranking is yielding results as the city continues to remain among top 10 ranked cities, based on the number of citizen feedback received. Trichy currently is ranked fifth rank in the category.
As citizen feedback is one of the crucial parameters in the cleanliness ranking to evaluate a civic body’s performance, this will give the city an edge over other cities in securing a place among top 10 clean cities of 2019.

Out of the total 5,000 marks, the survey has earmarked 1,250 marks for citizen feedback to understand the pulse of people about their civic body’s performance in maintaining city’s cleanliness. Though Trichy Corporation in the past had secured ample marks in documentation (registering the daily activities) and direct observation (field visits by third-party agencies), citizen feedback had been poor.

As on Saturday, Trichy has recorded 6,135 feedbacks and stands behind Hyderabad, Indore, Rohtak, and Chandigarh. Trichy is the only city from Tamil Nadu in the top 10.

“It is crucial for us to fare well in all domains to ensure better overall rank in the survey. We have planned to approach college students to record their feedbacks,” corporation commissioner N Ravichandran said. Local bodies participating in the survey can record feedbacks of residents till January 31.

In feedback, citizens will be asked a set of seven questions - whether residents are satisfied with the city’s cleanliness, availability of urinals and public inference on open defecation free status of a city, among others. Feedback can be recorded through Swachh Survekshan’s online portal, Swachhata mobile application, and through phone at 1800-101-1994. Sources said that the central team from Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) may visit the city for direct observation after Pongal festival.
