Makkal Auto launches service

After a two-month pilot run, Makkal Auto, an autorickshaw booking service, formally announced its launch in the city on Friday.

Residents of the city can hire autorickshaws through the App, Mauto Pride. The not so tech-savvy can just dial the call centre 044-43214321 to book an autorickshaw, A.Mansoor Ali Khan, founder, Makkal Auto, said addressing a press conference here.

The fare would be ₹30 for the first 1.8 km and ₹14 every subsequent km. The fare would go up by 50% between 11 in the night and 5 in the morning. Cash and digital payment options were available. The App would have English and Tamil language options and a person downloading it can avail three free rides. The App also had safety features such as panic button and tracking facility to meet the requirements of women customers.

Mr.Khan claimed nearly 400 autorickshaws were available under the service in the city. The company would charge only a transparent service charge of ₹10 from the customers and there will no other hidden fee such as peak hour fares. Autorickshaw drivers would not be required to pay any commission to the company.

Makkal Auto also strived to encourage more women and transgenders. Currently, a woman driver has joined its service in Tiruchi.
