Having completed almost all works under phase I at a cost of ₹350 crore, the Indian Institute of Management-Tiruchi (IIM-T) is awaiting an equal amount of funding from the Ministry of Human Resource Development to initiate the next phase.

Under the first phase, IIM-T completed construction of the administrative building, academic block, library building, six hostels of 70 capacity each, one mess building of 300 capacity, sports complex, officers’ and staff residences.

Under phase II, IIM-T is looking forward to constructing an auditorium of 1,500 capacity, classrooms of 120 capacity each, an international hostel with 60 capacity, at least two more hostels of 60 capacity each, an art and cultural centre, a museum, building for banks, food court, a temple, church, dargah, and shopping complex. Additional staff quarters will also be constructed under the second phase, IIM-T Director Bhimaraya Metri said.

There will be an addition of 25 to the existing faculty strength of 40. Among the new IIMs, IIM-T and IIM-Udaipur have made considerable strides in completing infrastructure works under phase I.

The Ministry is learnt to be in wait for the IIMs at Ranchi, Kashipur, Jharkhand, Raipur and Rohtak to catch up before uniformly releasing the funding for phase II. IIM-Tiruchi and IIM Udaipur, on their part, have made a representation to the MHRD for early release of funds.

Later this year, IIM-T plans to have a formal inauguration of the new campus. In all probability, it could take place during March, he said.
