First rake of refurbished coaches rolls out

The Tiruchi Railway Division rolled out the first rake of upgraded passenger coaches refurbished under ‘Project Utkrisht’ and deployed them on the Tiruchi - Howrah Express that left Tiruchi Junction on Friday.

The coaches were refurbished at a cost of ₹60 lakh at the Golden Rock Railway Workshop in Tiruchi, Carriage Works and Loco Works - both at Perambur in Chennai.

The interiors of the refurbished coaches of the Tiruchi-Howrah Express have been provided with PVC (Poly Vynile Chloride) flooring; high quality vinyl wrapping in the doorway and gangway area and provision of LED lighting in coaches.

In addition to these, hydrophobic coating had been done on all stainless steel items; complete panel replacement done in the doorway and gangway area in coaches besides provision of Braille signage for the berth numbers.

The toilets in these coaches have been provided with Epoxy flooring for better aesthetics and longer life span besides ensuring proper floor level and slope. Besides these, bio-tanks have been fitted in all toilets and stainless steel dustbins provided.

As per Railway Board instructions, high quality PU painting has been done on the exterior of coaches. A layer of anti-graffiti paint has been applied on top of the PU paint to give a bright and reflective finish on coach bodies. High quality reflective stickers have been used for Coach Information indication in lieu of stencilling with paint.
