Anna Stadium comes under CCTV coverage

Trichy: CCTV cameras have been installed at the Anna Stadium and Race Course Road to improve surveillance. State tourism minister Vellamandi N Natarajan and state backward and minorities welfare minister S Valarmathi inaugurated the CCTV network at a function at Anna Stadium on Saturday.
A total of 32 cameras have been installed at the stadium, Race Course Road and adjoining roads. The surveillance system was set up with the donation of Rs 10 lakh from A K Kaja Najimudeen, secretary and correspondent of Jamal Mohammed College.

These cameras will cover the areas from TVS toll gate to Jamal Mohammed College road and the surrounding areas and relay the feed to the Trichy city police control room at Cantonment. The CCTV coverage comes as part of the centralized surveillance system of Trichy city police. A Amalraj, commissioner of police, Trichy, had recently mentioned the incidences of chain snatching in race course area and their plan to install 1,086 CCTV cameras.

Of them, around 600 cameras have already been installed at several places across the city, said Natarajan. He also said that the work of installing 500 more cameras will be completed soon.

“With CCTV surveillance, it will be possible to make Trichy a crime-free city. Since the movements are monitored at the modernized control room, incidences of crimes like theft will come down so that the offenders will change and divert their attention towards good work. Trichy has become an example in CCTV surveillance among other cities in Tamil Nadu,” said Natarajan.

District collector K Rajamani, corporation commissioner N Ravichandran, DCP N S Nisha and DCP A Myilvaganan were among those who tool part in the function.
