Utilise Centres of Excellence

The Research and Consultancy Wing of National Institute of Technology - Tiruchi (NIT-T) initiated a discussion with representatives of Confederation of Indian Industry, Tiruchi Zone, on Tuesday with the idea of throwing open state-of-art common facility centres on its campus to small, medium and large industries.

Over 60 participants were exposed to the utilities they could derive from the Siemens Centre of Excellence that was inaugurated earlier this year by Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar, the Centre of Excellence in Corrosion and Surface Engineering (CECASE), Centre for Excellence in Energy and Environmental Science and Technology (CESSAT) and various departmental laboratories.

The Siemens Centre of Excellence was involved in executing a consultancy project valued at Rs. 1.2 crore for BHEL, NIT-T Director Mini Shaji Thomas said.

Presiding over the meeting, Mini Shaji Thomas hoped that the industry-institute link will reflect in accelerated research and consultancy activities in the campus. She exhorted the industry representatives to approach experienced faculty members for time-bound solutions to critical problems.

A.S. Ananthakrishnan, Department Chairman, CII, Tiruchi Zone, and an alumnus of 1990 batch of Production Engineering students, recounted how his venture CEEYES Engineering Industries PVT. Ltd took shape with support of his teachers. M. Umapathy, Dean - Research and Consultancy, NIT-T, assured sustained research and consultancy support for industries in the region. A.R. Syed Arif, Vice Chairman, CII, Tiruchi Zone, and Managing Partner, Five Star Industries, also took part in the discussion along with several other delegates.
