Trichy IT park Phase II: Elcot concludes DPR work

Trichy: The operation cost associated with expansion of companies and the saturation of available space in metropolitan cities have forced the entry-level and mid-level organisations to head to tier-II cities like Trichy, leading to a spurt in demand for infrastructure in the cities. Making use of the demand, Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) has completed a detailed project report (DPR) to expand the office space at the IT park here in Navalpattu. Officials sources said they hope to begin the construction by mid-2019, after getting the administrative sanction.

As part of promoting IT parks in tier-II cities, a 147.61-acre Elcot IT park having 60,000 squarefeet office space was commissioned at Navalpattu, 8 km from Trichy international airport. The entire office space was completely occupied more than a year ago, and there is an increased demand for expanding the existing IT park. After repeated demands, Elcot officials conducted a DPR study, which concluded last week. Official sources said that the phase II of the IT park to be established on an outlay of Rs 40 crore will have not less than 1 lakh squarefeet of office space. "For the next three years, huge investment will flow into Trichy as far as Information Technology enabled Services (ITeS) is concerned. Considering the city’s potential in terms of minimal operation cost and human resources availability, more such IT parks are needed," A R Yogandran, managing director of Trichy-based Fulgent IT Solutions said.

While the Navalpattu IT park employs around 800 people, the proposed phase II of the SEZ near Trichy-Pudukottai NH and Trichy airport is likely to provide employment to at least 2,000 people. Besides the readymade office space, 60 acres of land is still available with the SEZ for companies to build own offices at a subsidised price on lease. "Now we await the administrative sanction to float a tender for identifying a contractor.

Works may commence in six months," an official source in Elcot told TOI. HR sources in the ITeS companies here said that they have expanded their employee strength by 30-50% in the past three years. With the city getting more domestic air connectivity recently, several Bengaluru-based ITeS firms were said to have shown interest in launching their operations in Trichy.
