Rail users seek train to Bengaluru

Trichy: Despite there being a growing demand for an additional day-time train between Trichy and Bengaluru, only one train has been operating to the capital of Karnataka for many decades, rail users said on Saturday. They urged the railway ministry to operate more such trains owing to the increased population and expansion of IT sector in the city. In the case of Madurai – Bengaluru section, there are 22 trains per week. However, despite repeated appeals by Trichy commuters, for a whole central region, railway operates a daily train-Mayiladuthurai-Mysore and a weekly – Vascodakama-Vellankanni, on this section, activists alleged.

The waitlist is around 300 on weekends and in fact around 120 buses (up and down) are operated daily between these two cities, S Pushpavanam, secretary of consumer protection council, Tamil Nadu said. “Railway authorities keep telling that there is no spare rakes and yard to park if new trains would be operated. Our field studies in Bengaluru and adjoining stations show that spare rakes are available with spare locomotives,” he stated.
