New Year-eve: Drunk driving, teasing, speeding under lens



TRICHY: City police have issued few warnings to prevent untoward incidents during the celebrations on New Year- eve.

The police department has issued a strict warning against those indulging in drunken driving and teasing general public. Police personnel have also planned to be vigilant about incidences of negligent and speedy movement of vehicles over the prescribed limit.

In order to keep a tab on the celebrations, police have planned to intensify the patrolling across all police station limits. All the officers and the police personnel have been put on alert. The vehicle check will also be intensified at the check posts.

They have also pointed out the instances of harassing and teasing people in the name of conveying New Year wishes and warned of severe action.


The police also intensified security in religious places. They warned of action against liquor drinking on the roads and bursting crackers for the celebrations.


GVK-EMRI 108 ambulance service has been prepared to respond to any incidences of road accidents during New Year eve revelry. Sources said that the pilots and emergency medical technicians of the services have been put on alert to report to the duty on that day.


The officials also identified the locations where the accident had taken place during the New Year celebrations in the previous years. They are also focusing on the religious places on highways around Trichy. The ambulances will be stationed near such places from 8 pm on December 31 to 01 am on January 1.


Some of the hotspots identified were Chathram bus stand, head post office, Palpannai, Mannarapuram, Nagamangalam and Samayapuram toll gate. The arrangements have been made to station vehicles in rural areas. Sources said that the plans have been readied to ensure optimum use of the 33 ambulances of Trichy district to react to the accidents in the golden hour.
