New platform to be constructed at Tiruchy Junction



PASSENGERS can expect more facilities at Tiruchy Junction in the coming years as the Railway recently started a major renovation. According to sources, renovation of the station will be completed next year at a cost of Rs 17 crore. The station will get an additional platform on the Kallukuzhi side of Tiruchy railway station. "Currently, we have six platforms and one more will be constructed. By 2020, there will be seven platforms. The seventh platform will come up on the Kallukuzhi side," said sources. The Railways has allotted Rs 7 crore for its construction. 'The new platform will have more of  arch facilities and stalls. construct Similarly, we have  allotted about Rs 23 the station crore for beautification at  No.1 side portion of the station approach.  We are also constructing an arch at e  the entrance station and the approach road on the parcel office side of the station will be repaired," an official said.

Although the Railways is planning major beautification of Tiruchy railway station, sources confirmed the design or layout would not be changed. 'Tiruchy railway station is one of Southern Railway's oldest and we do not have any plans to change its existing architectural design. We will add more facilities to the station, which will improve passenger comfort," said sources.  Passengers welcomed the beautification plans with many suggesting the Railways should also provide more seating facilities at the station. "Any-one visiting the station can see people sitting on the floor at the Platform No. 1 entrance. The Railways has to provide more seating facilities and should repair the station roof. The leaking roof often inconveniences passengers and visitors during rainy season," said T S Ramalingam, a railway passenger.

. "We are al-eady using 1® LED fittings in the station and recycling 60 per cent of wastewater and is plastic bag-free. This year, we failed to get CHIGBC's Silver Gold or Platinum rating, but completion of the renovation project will increase our competence for a rating," an official said.
