Madras Flying Club to be shifted to city

There is a good news for aviation enthusiasts in the city, the Madras Flying Club, one of the oldest pilot training institutes, has decided to shift to Tiruchy airport. The 88-year-old aviation institute, which has six aircraft and 30 students and currently operates from Chennai airport, is ex-pected to start functioning in Tiruchy on January 15. "They did a trial flight at our air-port on Friday We had allotted space for them. We are expecting them to start operations on January 15. This is great news for aviation enthusiasts in the city," said K Gunasekaran, director of Tiruchy airport. Other aircraft are expected to complete the shift to Tiruchy soon.Sources said there were several reasons for shifting the flying club from Chennai.

 "Chennai has difficulty accommodating a flying club in such a busy airport. Apart from this, there are sev-eral other factors like further expansion possibilities and escalating expenditure for students," said a source. The arrival of the aviation institute in the city is also great news for the academic sector, sources said. The flying club maintains a full-fledged aviation library The club has three Cessna 152As, two Hansa as and a Cessna 172 R air-craft. It also has an sekaran, Iskara jet engine from to direct a the Indian Air Force for display and educational purposes. "The coming of a premier aviation institute would be great for Tiruchy, which is already known as an educational hub," said an offlcial.Jawaharlal Nehru attended the silver jubilee of this club in 1955.
