All set for consecration of temple

All arrangements have been made for the first phase of Mahakumbabishekham of renowned Sri Jambukeswarar-Akilandeswari Temple at Thiruvanaikkaval, referred to as Thiruvan, here on Sunday.

The consecration of the Parivaara Murthis (smaller shrines) will be held on December 9 (Sunday), while kumbhabishekam of Sri Akilandeswari Amman and Sri Jambukeswarar shrines will be performed on December 12 (Wednesday).

One of the Panchabootha Sthalams representing water, the famous Siva temple is revered as Appu Sthalam with the Siva Lingam called Appu Linga. The kumbhabishekam for this temple -- one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams and built by Emperor Kocengannan Chola centuries ago -- is to be held after a gap of 18 years. The last event was held in September 2000.

Ahead of the first phase of kumbhabishekam slated for December 9, Ganapathy homam, Navagraha homam and Vasthu Saanthi were performed on Friday morning. The rituals were conducted in the presence of Kanchi Sankaracharya Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi. Officials of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department, donors and devotees took part in the event.

The kumbhabishekam for the Parivaara Murthigal, Parivaara Vimanas and Urchava Murthigal will be held on Sunday between 7.30 a.m. and 8.15 a.m.

The kumbhabishekam for Sri Akilandeswari and Sri Jambukeswarar shrines will be held at 7 a.m. on December 12. A large number of devotees from various parts of the State and abroad, besides Sivan Adiyars, Odhuvars and religious scholars are expected to take part in the event.

The kumbhabishekam souvenir will be released on December 11.
