Trichy: The divisional railway users consultative committee (DRUCC) meeting held here on Wednesday discussed the steps to be taken to enable registration and booking of autorickshaws online and avert excess fair being collected by auto drivers at all railway stations in Trichy division. Members also suggested introducing cost-effective e-rickshaws instead of battery cars at stations.

Replying to suggestions to rein in excess charging by licensed autorickshaws at stations, officials said that online licensing system for autos having valid permit will be floated soon by the division. They also promised to look into the possibilities of connecting Mayiladuthurai-Trichy passenger and Trichy-Salem passenger at Trichy in both directions. The demand was raised by member of DRUCC and Thanjavur district rail users association president, A Giri.


Appreciating the introduction of integrated unreserved ticketing system at major stations, the member also appreciated permanent stoppages for Jansadabdi express and Tirupati express at Papanasam. Another member, V R Dhanaseelan, requested the officials to establish retiring rooms and dormitories at Karaikal station as many devotees visited various temples located in and around towns like Thirunallaru and Thirukkadaiyur.




Officials said that the process of electrification of Villupuram - Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai -Tiruvarur section would be completed before March. Separate bay would be marked in general compartments for disabled in Rockfort and Cholan expresses having LHB coaches, they added. Additional divisional railway managers C R Harish and R Aaivu presided over the meeting. Members representing passenger associations, consumer organisations, chamber of commerce, nominees of MPs, representative of handicapped association and government nominees participated.


Additional divisional railway managers briefed the meeting about the development activities being undertaken and improvement in passenger amenities in the division and sought the cooperation of the members. Senior divisional commercial manager and secretary of DRUCC, Arun Thomas welcomed the gathering.
