Work on industrial corridor masterplan is on : Minister

Industries minister M C Sampath on Sunday said that a comprehensive development plan was drawn up to prepare the masterplan for the proposed industrial corridor.
He made the key announcement while addressing entrepreneurs and members of various industry associations after taking part in a roadshow for Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet–2019 here on Sunday.

The industrial corridor would be established as six nodes like Madurai-Dindigul-Virudhunagar- Theni, Cuddalore-Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram, Ariyalur-Perambalur -Trichy and Pudukottai-Sivaganga. Infrastructure, electricity, drinking water and drainage would be made for the project.

Similarly, they are closely following the defence corridor project by the Central government connecting Chennai, Trichy, Hosur and Salem. He said that administrative sanction has been given to acquire a whopping 19, 615 acres of land for the industrial development in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu.

The land would be used for setting up new industrial parks in nine districts, including Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai, Dindigul, Theni and Tuticorin as per the promise made by former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, Sampath said.

He lauded Global Investors Meet – 2015 for attracting investments up to Rs 2.4 lakh and said the event was big hit. Of the 98 companies that signed memoranda of understanding, 63 are established industries. Around 1.08 lakh jobs have been created as a result, he said.

The minister urged the entrepreneurs and investors to make the GIM 2019 a grand success. The threshold limit to sign an MoU in Global Investors Meet in 2019 has been reduced to Rs 10 crore, he said and appealed the investors to start industries at southern districts.
